RUTHVEN BARRACKS
The Barracks has strong links with the 1715 and the 1745 Jacobite risings

1715 JACOBITE RISING
Ruthven was built after the 1715 rising to enforce and police the Jacobite disarming act of 1716

1745 JACOBITE RISING
The last 3000 men from Culloden gathered at Ruthven after the battle.

Jacobite Tour to Ruthven Barracks
No Jacobite Tour would be complete without visiting Ruthven Barracks where the final act of the Jacobite Army took place. Around 3000 Jacobite's from the  heavily defeated army gathered at the Barracks after Culloden to await word from Bonnie Prince Charlie. His message arrived four days later and read   ‘Let every man seek his own safety in the best way he can’. The army destroyed the barracks before dispersing angry and heartbroken after sacrificing everything for their  Bonnie Prince.
