Jacobite Tour to The Glenfinnan Monument

In 1745 Prince Charles Edward Stuart landed in Scotland and made his way up Loch Shiel to Glenfinnan, hoping to gather support from clans. Arriving with with roughly 50 men his numbers grew to about 1500 with in  a couple of days .largely due to  support from Cameron of Lochiel, MacDonald of Keppoch. This convinced him he could make the Rising work and the Jacobite standard was raised for the first time in 1745 Rising.

Sat at the head of Loch Shiel the Glenfinnan Monument was erected in 1815, for Alexander Macdonald of Glenaladale a local laird.

During your visit you have time to admire the monument and surrounding area, including the Viaduct. There is also the added option of a guided tour to the top of the monument and a wander round the visitor centre.
